Slides from six decks Case App built.

Each of the five stages builds on the one before.

Every stage writes a document you read, question and approve. The next stage builds on it.

  1. 1

    Research

    What it does

Reads every file in the case pack, then researches the company, its industry and its rivals.

    Your part

Upload the case pack as you got it: PDF, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, CSV or text.

    Eide sample

Sampled 58 sources. A family-owned Norwegian salmon farmer that launched SalmonZero, which it calls the first carbon-neutral salmon.

  2. 2

    Key issues

    What it does

From symptoms, deduces causes and tests each issue against real data.

    Your part

Read the issues and ask for changes. It always builds on your newest research.

    Odfjell sample

Diagnosed 2 issues. The first: make Odfjell’s efficiency lead show up as the lowest all-in price at contract renewal.

  3. 3

    Solutions

    What it does

Drafts options and weighs them, then works up the ones you choose: how it works, the financials, the risks, the KPIs.

    Your part

Tick the solutions to work out in full, or add your own ideas.

    Burberry sample

Own the weather, a clear price ladder, phase out outlets and markdowns: each scored 22, 21 and 11 out of 25 respectively.

  4. 4

    Outline

    What it does

Turns the strategy into a slide-by-slide outline in which every title states the point.

    Your part

Set the deck size, the strategy name, your team name and teammates. Nothing is built until you approve.

    Odfjell sample

Odfjell True Cost: 13 main slides, 3 section dividers and 2 appendix slides after the cover.

  5. 5

    Slides

    What it does

Designs each slide against a library of real case-competition decks, builds it and checks it.

    Your part

Ask for a change on any slide, or have one redesigned. Download for PowerPoint or Google Slides.

    Burberry, Odfjell and Starlux sample

Burberry: own the weather, outerwear and scarves as the reason to pay full price. Odfjell: total-cost bids score highest of the options weighed. Starlux: selling ‘via Taipei’ fills 100 of 530 empty US seats a day.

Every slide starts as an outline you approve.

Drag across to seeHere is one outline entry and the slide Case App built from it. From the Odfjell sample.

“Odfjell’s fleet is 27% more carbon-efficient than Stolt’s today, but at 2025 rates the gap is ~4% by 2030”

Compared to what Odfjell vs Stolt Tankers, same years, actual then projected.

  • AER, Odfjell actual: 8.1 (2021) → 6.8 (2025). Stolt: 9.34 (2025).
  • Projection at 2025 rates: gap 27% (2025) → 19% (2027) → ~4% (2030). Label it a straight-line projection, not a forecast.
  • Why it matters: Odfjell’s improvement is slowing while Stolt’s is accelerating.

Supporting strengths

>54% below the 2008 intensity baseline (Dec 2025) → credible leader.

Decarbonisation dashboard, customer portal and ReFlow Scope 3 models → the data True Cost needs already exists.

Takeaway The lead is Odfjell’s to cash in, but only for about five years.

Source Odfjell 4Q25 report; Odfjell Annual Report 2024; Stolt-Nielsen Annual Report 2025. Footnote AER measures capacity, not cargo carried; the model uses a 25% cargo-based gap (see A1).

The slide built from it: Odfjell’s fleet is 27% more carbon-efficient than Stolt’s today, but at 2025 rates the gap is about 4% by 2030, shown as two lines converging, with what is already in place beside the chart.

Every business term is explained where it appears.

Every technical term or potential jargon is underlined, in every document. Hover over one to see what it means, the formula, an example and the mistake to avoid.

  • 89terms explained in the Odfjell Research document alone.
  • 354cards written before your case begins, from EBITDA to price elasticity.
  • New terms from your case get their own cards, in the sense your case uses them.

From the Odfjell sample’s Key issues document, shortened. Hover over or tap an underlined term.

Make the efficiency lead show up as the lowest at contract renewal. The gap to Stolt is 27% today, but Odfjell’s carbon-price advantage is smaller than the 3% customers claim they would pay.

All-in price

A money amount: the total a customer pays for a shipment, adding freight, fuel and carbon charges together.

Freight + fuel charge + carbon charge

Example
A shipper pays $60 per tonne freight, $12 fuel and $3 carbon, so the all-in price is $75 per tonne.
Why judges care
Judges want to see you compare options on what the customer actually pays, not on a headline rate.
Common mistake
Comparing only the headline freight rate and ignoring fuel and carbon add-ons.

AER Annual Efficiency Ratio

A ratio: grams of CO2 emitted per tonne of capacity per nautical mile sailed; lower is better.

CO2 emitted (g) ÷ (deadweight tonnes × nautical miles)

Example
An AER of 6.8 beats an AER of 9.3 by about 27%.
Why judges care
It is the main efficiency number in this case.
Common mistake
Forgetting that it ignores how full the ship is.

Green premium

A percentage: the extra price customers pay for a greener product.

(Green price − normal price) ÷ normal price × 100%

Example
If shipping costs $100 and green shipping $103, the premium is 3%.
Why judges care
Judges test whether a premium is realistic.
Common mistake
Assuming customers will pay a premium without evidence.
